District-Level Career & Technical Education, STEM, & Instructional Technology Coordinator

Duties performed:

  • Served as direct liaison between campus principals, Superintendent, and Assistant Superintendent for matters concerning Career & Technical Education

  • Created, implemented, and streamlined career pathways and programs of study offered at SISD, to include building partnerships with workforce agencies, local business and industry partners, and frequently meeting with local governmental agencies to create pipelines for  work-based learning and careers for students

  • Researched Workforce data and trends to ensure that the district was offering coursework that led to high-wage, high-skill jobs and post-secondary opportunities to students

  • Scheduled, monitored, and ensured compliance for all Perkins federal program activities in order to improve student achievement

  • Applied, managed, and maintained Perkins Grant and Perkins Effectiveness Reports

  • Planned for, managed, and performed all duties pertaining to budgeting, purchasing, and maintaining CTE facilities, supplies, equipment, and travel

  • Planned, facilitated, and executed professional development for CTE staff

  • Ensured the participation of CTE staff in the TAIS improvement process and intervention requirements

  • Promoted CTE, STEM, and College & Career Readiness district-wide (K-12)

  • Monitored and regularly audited student 4-year plans (which evolved to 6-year plans during my tenure), PEIMS coding/indicators, attendance, industry-based certification acquisition among students, and performed dual credit/college course progress monitoring.

  • Worked with staff to develop, maintain, and revise curriculum based on systematic review analysis

  • Served as representative, liaison, and facilitator of Advisory Committee Meetings for various career clusters

  • Created and maintained partnerships with higher education officials, local businesses, and industries for district and campus mentor, internship, and externship programs

  • Prepared summaries, management plans, needs assessments, and progress reports

  • Responsible for increasing the use of technology across the district; analyze and assess various online resources, technologies, and budgets
     

In my role as the District Technology Coordinator, my duties also included:​

  • Developed technology-based lessons for teachers to use in their classrooms and implemented technology into curriculum

  • Assisted teachers with creating online presence, uploading lessons to class websites, and using blended curriculum

  • Supervised technology staff
     

During my tenure at Southside ISD, I enjoyed success in bringing a program that was in "improvement required" (IR) status in accountability to an A-rating at the time of my departure. Student participation in coherent sequences of CTE courses and programs of study increased by 90%, and participation in Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) increased exponentially. Through my leadership and the collaborative efforts of my CTE team, SISD increased the amount of weighted funding received through CTE participation by 71% in 3 years and the number of students earning industry-based certifications went from 12 to 368. 

As the liaison bridging communication among campus and district administration for Career & Technical Education matters, my responsibilities extended to scheduling, monitoring, and ensuring compliance with all Carl D Perkins federal program activities aimed at enhancing student achievement. I oversaw large-scale, district-wide budgeting, purchasing, and maintenance of CTE facilities, supplies, equipment, and travel logistics. Additionally, I planned, facilitated, and executed professional development sessions for CTE staff, ensuring their active participation in the TAIS improvement process and meeting intervention requirements.
 

Conducting thorough research on workforce data and trends, I focused on aligning district coursework with high-wage, high-skill, in-demand jobs, and post-secondary opportunities for all students. I was pivotal in promoting CTE, STEM, and College & Career Readiness district-wide from kindergarten to twelfth grade. Further, I fostered partnerships with higher education officials, local businesses, industries, and governmental agencies to establish mentorship, internship, and externship programs for district and campus involvement. As a representative, liaison, and facilitator of Advisory Committee Meetings for various career clusters, I contributed to building and maintaining meaningful connections within the community.

In addition to being the District CTE and STEM Coordinator, I was also the District Technology Coordinator. As such, I developed technology-based lessons and assisted teachers in integrating technology into the curriculum. I supervised technology staff and played a crucial role in increasing the district's use of technology by analyzing and assessing online resources, technologies, and budgets. Throughout these responsibilities, I demonstrated a comprehensive approach to advancing educational goals and technological integration across the district.
